Why pepino?
In 2019, Pepino was adopted from a shelter in West Virginia by an Italian American gal from Queens, NY, whose love of food comes second only to her love of Pepino. As her surrogate child, Pepino partakes in household activities with excitement and belonging. Pepino is particularly fond of meal and snack times, which, if you know any Italians, are not only the most important times of day, but are quite plainly most times of the day.
In 2021, Pepino discovered that he is allergic to most foods. The only proteins he can consume are eggs, plant proteins, and beef. If he eats too much beef, he develops fat in his blood at dangerously high levels. For these reasons, he is on a limited ingredient, low protein, plant based diet.
This has made keeping Pepino healthy, and satisfied a challenge, and has made sharing snacks with him near impossible. Finding treats for his specific dietary restrictions is difficult, and not being able to share food with Pepino without hesitation feels unfair and at times heartbreaking.
To overcome this, we developed a human-tasty, Pepino-safe biscuit to share and enjoy with peace of mind.
Pepino is half coonhound, half dalmatian.
